Disaster Recovery

  • Customer: Engineering Company
  • Industry: Manufacturing
  • Service: Infrastructure Services > Disaster Recovery
  • Hardware: x86 based Dell 1750 server

The Situation

Our client is a rapidly growing company in manufacturing segment has multi-terabyte heterogeneous storage environment. This site is critical for client organization as its running core business applications. The client has made significant investments in top of the line EMC and NETAPP storage

The Challenge

The client has a remote site setup but no disaster recovery plan for storage. The similar line of storage hardware was not the option at disaster recovery site due to budget constraints. The client was looking for a partner who could offer possible low cost solutions leveraging current hardware while achieving the objective.

The Solution

i3 understood customer’s storage environment and proposed a storage virtualization solution that would help the organization achieve high availability using existing hardware. i3 used IP backbone to replicate the storage across the disaster recovery site. This cost-effective SAN solution allowed the organization to leverage existing hardware investments for a faster return on investment and dramatically lower total cost of ownership. The solution also provided other benefits such as thin provisioning and single console to manage heterogeneous storage environment.

Situation

A typical challenge that our customer came across, was retention of tactic knowledge in its IT department. A large number of employees have been with THEM since its inception or have been working on application since its conceptualization phase. These employees were proficient in their own areas that they had developed over the number of years of being associated with them or its client. However, this knowledge or process was not documented as a result of which, our customer faced major setback each time an employee moved ahead in his life after being associated with them, for a good number of years.

The Result

This cost-effective SAN solution allowed the organization to leverage existing hardware investments for a faster return on investment and dramatically lower total cost of ownership. The solution also provided other benefits such as thin provisioning and single console to manage heterogeneous storage environment. The solution met both objectives of high availability and disaster recovery.
